Let GG be a finite group and cd(G)cd(G) denote the set of complex irreducible character degrees of GG. In this paper, we prove that if GG is a finite group and HH is an almost simple group whose socle is Mathieu group such that cd(G)=cd(H)cd(G) =cd(H), then there exists an Abelian subgroup AA of GG such that G/AG/A is isomorphic to HH. This study is heading towards the study of an extension of Huppert's conjecture (2000) for almost simple groups.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1108.0010 by other author

    Get PDF
Globalization of food supply chains has led to an increased uncertainty of the origin and safety of fish-based products. Barcoding can be used to validate the labelling of products and to trace their origin. “Fish fraud” has been discovered across the globe. Barcoding can also trace fish species as there can be human health hazards related to consumption of fish. The study evaluated the applicability of the mitochondrial genes cytochrome b (cytB), and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) for the identification of fish and processed fish product by DNA barcoding. In the study, universal primers for mitochondrial cytB were used to discriminate fish species in raw and processed forms. The barcode primers were cross tested against collected fish product. In this study DNA barcoding was employed to identify fishery product collected from market and supermarket located in Apulia region (Southern Italy). We collected and analyses 90 samples for our study. For this project different varieties of fish samples were collected from different supermarkets and of different companies. DNA was isolated from all samples and amplified by PCR; the most intense amplified product was chosen for Sanger Sequencing. After sequencing, the sequences were matched with NCBI BLAST and FISH BOL. After obtaining the results species were identified and matched with the labelling of the products. Non-compliance between the species detected and the species declared in the label was detected in 10 out of 90 (11.1) % samples. The study provides further evidence of the need for increased traceability and assessment of food products authentication. Additionally, correct species denomination and traceability may increase the standard of management of hazards related to fish and food safety as well as ensuring product authenticity, providing reliable information to consumers. Another objective of the thesis was the development of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for rapid and direct screening of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) in commercial fish products. In this study, a loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay was developed and validated targeting the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene for fast and direct detection of Thunnus albacares, which is a valuable species of tuna. The analytical specificity was confirmed using 18 target samples (Thunnus albacares) and 18 samples of non-target fish species. The analytical sensitivity of the LAMP assay was 540 fg DNA per reaction. In addition, a simple and direct swab method without time-consuming nucleic acid extraction procedures and the necessity for cost-intensive laboratory equipment was performed that allowed LAMP detection of Thunnus albacares samples within 13 minutes. Due to its high specificity and sensitivity, the LAMP assay can be used as a rapid and on-site screening method for the identification of Thunnus albacares, potentially providing a valuable monitoring tool for food authenticity control by the authoritie

Review of Semantic Importance and Role of using Ontologies in Web Information Retrieval Techniques

The Web contains an enormous amount of information, which is managed to accumulate, researched, and regularly used by many users. The nature of the Web is multilingual and growing very fast with its diverse nature of data including unstructured or semi-structured data such as Websites, texts, journals, and files. Obtaining critical relevant data from such vast data with its diverse nature has been a monotonous and challenging task. Simple key phrase data gathering systems rely heavily on statistics, resulting in a word incompatibility problem related to a specific word's inescapable semantic and situation variants. As a result, there is an urgent need to arrange such colossal data systematically to find out the relevant information that can be quickly analyzed and fulfill the users' needs in the relevant context. Over the years ontologies are widely used in the semantic Web to contain unorganized information systematic and structured manner. Still, they have also significantly enhanced the efficiency of various information recovery approaches. Ontological information gathering systems recover files focused on the semantic relation of the search request and the searchable information. This paper examines contemporary ontology-based information extraction techniques for texts, interactive media, and multilingual data types. Moreover, the study tried to compare and classify the most significant developments utilized in the search and retrieval techniques and their major disadvantages and benefits

Empirical Examination of Quantitative Easing in Monetary Policy and Earning Management of Financial Markets and Institutions

In the first chapter, I analyze the impact of changes in aggregate holding in special asset purchase programs by Federal Reserve Systems (FED) as an alternate monetary policy at aggregate level. Later, to complement the analysis of monetary impact at aggregate level, I also analyze the impact of monetary actions at bank stock level with a set of 186 banks. First, for the overall sample period, expected monetary shock has positive effect on bank stock return; however, unexpected shock component has otherwise negative impact. Second, during both conventional and QE regime, monetary shocks are not significant in explaining weekly stock returns; however change in FED’s total asset holding in special programs is significant during the QE regime and such findings are more robust for the “large” banks when compared to “medium” and “small” banks. The second chapter presents the second essay that is one of the early studies to analyze whether either the changes in accounting standard or the changes in prudential regulatory regimes may affect the bank earning management in terms of Loan Loss Provisioning (LLP) systematically. Results suggest that, in general, bank managers use LLP as a tool for earning management for income smoothing and also for capital management once LLP is allowed to be a part of Tier-I capital requirement. Both changes in prudential regulation from pro-cyclic to a dynamic regime and convergence of accounting standard from rule-based to principle-based standards have significant negative fixed effects separately and jointly once included

Response Of The Dupi Tila Aquifer to intensive pumping in Dhaka, Bangladesh

This paper focuses on the water-quantity issues facing Dhaka because of the rapid exploitation of the Dupi Tila aquifer. Dhaka is one of the world’s largest groundwater-dependent cities, relying on water withdrawn from this underlying semiconfined sand aquifer. A meteoric rise in well construction in both the private and public sectors in recent years has produced an estimated 1,300 boreholes that tap the aquifer in urban and suburban parts of the city. Analysis of construction records for public-supply wells drilled between 1970 and 2000 shows that water levels are falling in several areas of the city despite apparently favorable recharge conditions . The productivity of boreholes as measured by specific capacity has also declined significantly. Even though the aquifer system is vital to the infrastructure of the city it remains a poorly quantified resource, and until this is resolved by investment in evaluation studies, attempts to efficiently manage the resource in a sustainable way will be frustrated

Theory of Boundedly Rational Planned Behavior: A New Model

    Get PDF
The prime intent of this article is to propose a new model in the paradigm of behavioral and business economics. To attain this objective, the study modifies a famous behavioral model of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which is based on the generalized unbounded rationality of neoclassical economics in dictating actual human behavior. Based on the idea of bounded rationality expounded by Herbert A. Simon, TPB has been modified by replacing intention variable with bounded rationality as the antecedent of actual behavior. The new model has been tested collating data collected from the participants of a Microfinance Institute currently operating in Bangladesh. Data were analyzed following the procedure of structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of the experiment show that the new model of TBRPB’s predictability is observed to be much better than TPB which may be regarded as a basic contribution to the existing body of knowledge

Enterprise Network Design and Implementation for Airports

    Get PDF
The aim of this project was airports network design and implementation and the introduction of a suitable network for most airports around the world. The following project focused on three main parts: security, quality, and safety. The project has been provided with different utilities to introduce a network with a high security level for the airport. These utilities are hardware firewalls, an IP access control list, Mac address port security, a domain server and s proxy server. All of these utilities have been configured to provide a secure environment for the entire network and to prevent hackers from entering sensitive departments like the flight management and service providers departments. Improving the performance of any network requires a high quality of techniques and services which help to improve the general task of the network. The technical services that have been placed in the airport’s network are failover firewalls utility, a Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) server, a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, a Domain Name System (DNS) server and a cabling system. These tools can increase the performance of the network in general and provide a stable internet service for the Air Traffic Control System by using dual internet service providers and the failover utility. The dual internet service providers’ role was to provide the flight management department, which helps to confirm the backup operation for the Air Traffic Control Complex (BATCX) system to outside the local network. This is achieved by using Windows servers backup (iSCSI initiators and iSCSI target) servers which helps to keep the Air Traffic Control systems’ information in a safe place. Also, for passengers’ personal information safety, the web server has been placed in the local network, which provides a secure environment for any network’s element

    Get PDF
Low shrinkage is an important parameter in marketing of dried lime fruits.  An experiment conducted in order to evaluate affective factors on shrinkage coefficient of a dried lime fruit.  Factors are defined as position of rest (vertical and horizontal), mechanical processing (length needling, width needling, slotting and intact or no processing), and temperature (shadow dried, sun dried, 40oC, 105oC and 200oC).  Measured characters on a fruit were initial volume, final volume, and shrinkage coefficient.  The average initial moisture content of limes was 476 % kg (kg db)-1.  The position factor had no significant effect on shrinkage coefficient, but mechanical processing and temperature affected the final volume and consequently the shrinkage coefficient of samples.  Also different influence of temperature in various mechanical processing was observed.  The best treatment was drying in 40oC and with width needling because low shrinkage was obtained moreover nutritive value of fruits can be conserved with low energy consuming.   Keywords: Lime, shrinkage, drying, mechanical processing and temperatur
